Veröffentlichung des Jahres: Frank Harris - "No Retreat, No Surrender" (Karate Tiger) - Original Soundtrack

Seit Komponist Frank Harris am 01.11.2007 bekannt gab, dass er daran arbeitet, den Original Soundtrack von "Karate Tiger" zu re-releasen, begann das fieberhafte Warten und die Vorfreude der Fans auf der ganzen Welt.
Ein Jahr später, im Oktober 2008 führte ich ein Interview mit Mr. Harris, der inzwischen die kompletten Masterbänder aufgetrieben und bearbeitet hatte und nach langer intensiver Arbeit den fast verschollen geglaubten Soundtrack nochmals ankündigte. Und kurz darauf, Anfang November, war es dann auch soweit: Der Original Soundtrack von "No Retreat, No Surrender" feierte nach 23 Jahren seine Premiere. Frank Harris hatte sein Versprechen gehalten und Eastern-Fans sowie Musik-Freunde gleichermassen glücklich gemacht.

Der FC Hansa Rostock plant nicht mehr mit Djordjije Cetkovic

Dazu Hansa-Trainer Dieter Eilts: „Wir haben heute mit Djordjije Cetkovic gesprochen und ihm mitgeteilt, dass wir ab sofort nicht mehr mit ihm planen“.

Auf der Homepage des FC Hansa Rostock heisst es höhnisch: "...Sollten die Spieler bis zum Trainingsstart am 5. Januar keinen neuen Verein finden, haben sie die Möglichkeit, am Training der Regionalligamannschaft des F.C. Hansa teilzunehmen oder sie werden individuell trainiert." [1]

Cetkovic zur BILD: „Der Trainer hat mir gesagt, ich hätte ihm nicht gezeigt, dass ich Nationalspieler bin, die Qualität habe und arbeiten will. Ich hatte hier nie eine faire Chance. Andere Spieler hatten einen Stammplatz, egal wie schlecht sie gespielt haben. Das hat nichts mit Leistung zu tun.“ [²]

In der Tat. Diese "Beurlaubung" ist eine unfassbare Zumutung von Dieter Eilts und Manager Herbert Maronn und ein weiteres Indiz, für die Unfähigkeit des Hansa-Trainers und des Vorstands.

Die komplette Inkompetenz wurde auch vor 2 Wochen beim Spiel gegen den FC Nürnberg wieder deutlich. Als Hansa zur Halbzeit 0:3 in Rückstand lag, brachte es Eilts fertig, mit Pearce einen weiteren Verteidiger zu bringen, aber Stürmer wie Cetkovic (3 Tore), Dorn (3 Tore), Lechleiter (3 Tore) und Kern (ebenfalls 3 Tore) auf der Bank zu lassen. Erst in der 74. Minute brachte er Kern, der neben Regionalligaspieler (!)  Kocer, der zweite Stürmer in diesem Spiel war und ohnehin seit Wochen ein schweres Formtief besitzt. Das Spiel wurde an diesem Tag 0:4 verloren und war bereits die dritte Niederlage in Folge unter Eilts.

Bei dem Spiel am Sonntag gegen Wehen Wiesbaden war Cetkovic nicht einmal mehr im Aufgebot.

Damit verlässt einer der größten Publikumslieblinge und besten Spieler den Verein.

Ich wünsche Djordjije persönlich alles erdenklich Gute auf seinem weiteren Weg und spreche im Namen aller Fans, wenn ich sage: "Danke für alles, wir werden dich vermissen. Du bist ein Stück des Vereins geworden und wirst es in unseren Augen immer sein. Mach's gut!"

Finally after 22 years of waiting, fans of the movie “No Retreat No Surrender” and “Karate Tiger” can enjoy the original musical score by me via digital download that will include four versions of the main theme song “Hold on to the Vision”. Unfortunately for reasons that are not entirely clear to me to this day, the version of “No Retreat No Surrender” that was released in the USA did not include my original score. This music however, does exist in the versions found in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Asia etc.. Fans have been asking for this music for many years and the difficulty of getting permission from the original film company “Seasonal Films” out of Hong Kong, has been challenging. Fortunately, we now have a co-venture to make this possible. I want to express my great appreciation to Kevin Chalfant for singing his heart out on the theme as the song would not be the same without his great vocal. A little known fact about this magical theme song is that I hired in 1985 a yet to be discovered guitar player named Joe Satriani (yes, the now internationally known guitar God) who came over to the studio and laced the amazing guitar solo that has become one of the signature elements of the tune, and exemplifies the early sound of the legendary Satriani. Because I had only a short three weeks to complete 93 cues including 4 vocal songs and the theme song, I didn’t have time to get some of the music exactly how I wanted it, so I’ve taken this opportunity to re-perform and re-mix the theme song as well as a few other selected tracks. This wasn’t easy because when I dug out the old master 2-inch analog tapes, they were shedding (meaning they were disintegrating) so badly, they didn’t play at all. After much effort, I then restored these tapes and successfully transferred the original tracks to the digital domain. For the theme song, I used the original vocal track and the Satriani guitar track but replayed many of the keyboard tracks and of course, remixed it. Also, at the time of composing the score, the producers asked me to deliver all of the tracks in “mono”, which is what is embedded in the movie now. But luckily at that time I mixed the theme and other selected cuts in stereo and archived them so I’m including the “original version” of the theme but in stereo. I’m also including a remix that was done by my engineer and friend Ray Pyle in 1987, at the infamous Lion Share recording studios which was home to many hit records including “We are the World” etc. Also, I made a special instrumental/karaoke mix as well for those who might enjoy singing along. The bonus tracks are selected tracks and cues from the original mono score that I re-mastered and stereo-ized to the best of my abilities. This has been a very long and arduous journey in getting these songs to a place where everyone can finally hear them the way in which they are supposed to be heard. I hope you all enjoy the music. Diesen Herbst ist es endlich soweit! 22 Jahre haben die Fans darauf gewartet: Der Original-Soundtrack von „NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER“, hierzulande besser bekannt als „Karate Tiger“, wird veröffentlicht.

Im Jahr 1986 wurde die Filmmusik (komponiert von Paul Gilreath) veröffentlicht. Da es von „Karate Tiger“ jedoch verschiedene Fassungen gibt, unterscheiden sich auch die Soundtracks. In den USA war eine andere Musik zu hören, als z.B. in der europäischen Version. So fehlte u.a. das Lied „Hold on to the Vision“ von Kevin Chalfant. Ebenso Titel wie "Ask Me to Stay","A Bottle and a Song" und "Close to You". Diese wurden von Frank Harris komponiert und niemals auf Tonträgern veröffentlicht. Bis Heute.



Frank Harris ist ein US-amerikanischer Musiker, Komponist, Techniker und Musikproduzent. Er ist ein weltweit anerkannter Programmierer des Synclavier, einem frühen digitalen Synthesizer und wurde weltberühmt mit dem Original-Soundtrack des Films „Karate Tiger“ (No Retreat, No Surrender) mit Jean Claude Van Damme. Harris komponiert außerdem noch die Filmmusik für viele Dokumentarfilme und brachte zuletzt die CD „From The Cave“ heraus, die bei Kritikern und Musikfreunden besonders gut ankam.

Ich hatte im Oktober 2008 die Ehre, mit Frank Harris folgendes Exclusiv-Interview zu führen:

Martin Hentschel: When did you first become interested in music and when did you decide to choose music as your occupation?
Frank Harris: Well, music sort of found me. My mother claims I used bang my head against my crib rhythmically constantly was I was very young. When I was a bit older, after my parents bought me a cheap guitar to lead campfire songs in my 4-H club, I would sit for hours next to the speakers with that guitar while my sisters would play Beatles records and figure out the chords and music by myself learning everything by ear before I ever had any music lessons. Eventually, in elementary and high school my music teachers would single me out and ask me to lead the class or conduct or something like that. Music just came easy to me and I got encouragement from people outside of my family, so it always felt good. My father had a PHD from MIT in Physics and was very smart in science and language but had no musical ability himself. My mother tried to give me piano lessons when I was young but the old lady piano teacher had so little “soul” that I hated her lessons and I quit. In retrospect, I wish that I had continued because learning a musical instrument well at a young age provides you with great facility when you get older which would have benefitted me when I was in music school at UCLA. I also had a bit of talent as an actor as I was in many community productions and had the leading roles in plays in high school. But in the end, music came more easily and I liked musicians better than actors anyway. Since I came from a very academic family there was great pressure to get a collage education so unlike many of my musician friends at the time, I got a degree in music performance on classical guitar from UCLA and it seemed that a career in music was possible.

M.H.: In 1983 you started the music production company “Third Wave Productions” which still exists, correct? Tell us about this.
F.H.: I began multi-track recording on an old 4-track analog tape machine in high school when I began playing all the instruments myself and singing multiple parts. That is when I became interested in music production and composition for the first time. After I graduated from collage, I built a business model and prospectus to begin a business around a very powerful new music computer called the Synclavier which became an extension of the 4 track recorder I started with. It allowed me to play even more instruments myself besides guitar, bass and piano to include instruments like strings, brass and new synthesized sounds the world had not yet heard. I also thought that I might be able to make a better living doing music for film, TV, jingles, commercials corporate videos, etc., than just trying to make money playing live gigs in bars or at weddings or stuff like that.

M.H.: 1986 you composed the Original Music for “No Retreat, No Surrender”. Why there are two separate Soundtracks for this movie and to this day no release of your version?
F.H.: For reasons I don’t entirely understand to this day, when the Hong Kong based original film producer had an opportunity to sell the movie to a distributor in the USA, they didn’t include my original score in the re-edit. My version still exists in the versions in the rest of the world. There could be many reasons for this and your guess is as good as mine. The good news is that after all this time I will be releasing an OST album imminently. Some great fans of my music score were able to find me via the internet and encourage me to pursue this release. It has been an extremely difficult effort because as I was hired to do this, the film company had the rights to the music. But luckily I retained ownership and rights of the original master tapes. After much time and effort and expense, I finally was able to contact the original company film (now out of business I believe) and have reached an agreement with them to release this music. I will be offering the original tracks plus 2008 remixes of selected tracks including two remixes of the theme song “Hold on to the Vision”. I will be including some bonus tracks which will be selections from the original “mono” score. It will be initially available as a complete score digital download at CDbaby.com this fall 2008. I hope that the fans will support this effort by legally downloading it from that website. Eventually it will be available at itunes and other digital download sites.

M.H.: Your albums “From the Gecko” and “From the Cave” are great aural-experiences. Where do the Indian influences come from in some of your songs?
F.H.: Thank you for the compliment. I have to wear many “hats” being in music production so if a project comes along I try to immerse myself into the style or genre of the project. In the case of “From the Cave” which was designed to be listened to during a yoga class, I embraced the tradition of yoga by incorporating original Indian Sanskrit mantras (chants) into my original music. I try to use musical element from cultures around the world and have incorporated unique and unusual musical styles into some of my music including samples of the Dalia Lama, or using sound sources from indigenous musicians from a particular locale.

M.H.: At least tell us about ongoing projects or upcoming releases.
F.H.: I have been very busy preparing the old tracks from “No Retreat No Surrender” to ready them for release. Recently I returned from Tokyo Japan where I collaborated with internationally acclaimed Visual artist Jimin Lee in which I provided Ms. Lee with a musical score to accompany a series of prints for an exhibition there. As I write this I am producing, arranging, co writing and tracking some very sexy R&B tracks for an exciting new singer from the east coast which I will have news about on my website when the project is complete.

Auf der Liste "Die Top-Spieler des Vereins" vom Kicker, ist Stürmer Djordjije Cetkovic neuer Spitzenreiter des FC Hansa Rostock mit der Note 2,75. Auf Platz 2 ist Kevin Schindler mit dem Schnitt 2,94. Platz 3 erreicht der neue Kapitän Martin Retov mit einer glatten 3,00.

Hansa Rostock schreibt Geschichte und besiegt TuS Koblenz mit 9:0

Der FC Hansa Rostock hat die TuS aus Koblenz im heimischen Ostseestadion vor 11000 Besuchern mit 9:0 besiegt. Der höchste Pflichtspielsieg der Vereingeschichte seit 1979!

Djordjije Cetkovic im Torrausch!

Im Testspiel beim Landesligisten VFL Bergen 94 gewann der FC Hansa Rostock klar mit 18:0! Hansas erfolgreichster Sürmer in dieser Saison, Djordjije Cetkovic, schoss dabei 5 Tore. Das macht in dieser Saison bereits 8 Testspieltore für den agilen Montenegriner. Hinzu kommen seine 3 Ligatore, die er in nur 200 Minuten erzielte. Durch die Verletzung von Régis Dorn (fällt bis Anfang November wegen Sprunggelenksverletzung aus) ist Djordjije ohnehin bei Trainer Frank Pagelsdorf gesetzt. Nächstes Heimspiel: am Sonntag den 19.10.2008 gegen TuS Koblenz!

Nora Tschirner dreht "Keinohrhasen 2" mit Til Schweiger

Gerade hat die charmante Schauspielerin die Krimi-Komödie "Mord ist mein Geschäft, Liebling" abgedreht, schon widmet sich Nora Tschirner sich den nächsten Projekten. Neben dem spanischen Drama "La noche que dejó de llover", ist sie Anfang des Jahres in dem Film "Vorstadtkrokodile" zu sehen, einem Remake des gleichnahmigen Kinderfilms aus dem Jahre 1977. Dann folgen 2009 noch die Filme "Bon Appetit" und "Keinohrhasen 2".

Ganze 10 Sekunden nach seiner Einwechslung traf Fussballidol Djordjije Cetkovic zum 2:0 für den FC Hansa Rostock gegen St. Pauli! In der 87. Minute legte der Publikumsliebling noch das 3:0 nach!
